Chile continues to position itself as a key destination for international sports events. This time, the country will host the World Rugby U20 Challenger Cup—marking the first time this global under-20 rugby tournament will be held in Chile.

This exciting announcement joins a growing list of major international sporting events confirmed for the country, including:

  • FIFA U-20 World Cup
  • UCI Track Cycling World Championships
  • FIBA Women’s AmeriCup
  • Youth Parapan American Games
  • Special Olympics World Games

The official announcement was made by leaders of the Chilean Rugby Federation, alongside Minister of Sports Jaime Pizarro, who confirmed the event will take place in August 2026.

A World-Class Venue at Parque Mahuida

The tournament will be played at the newly constructed rugby field in Parque Mahuida, located in the municipality of La Reina. This facility also houses the brand-new High Performance Center (CARR) of the Chilean Rugby Federation.

This cutting-edge sports complex was made possible thanks to a major investment from the National Sports Institute, exceeding 1 billion Chilean pesos.

The project includes a world-class synthetic grass field with a shock-absorbing base layer, compliant with World Rugby standards for both training and competition. The venue is equipped with proper infrastructure, including irrigation and rainwater collection systems for the entire field.

Additionally, a retaining wall was built to accommodate the terrain’s natural slope, and athlete-friendly spaces were added to support high-level performance and safety.

Chile: A Rising Sports Hub

With the confirmation of the World Rugby U20 Challenger Cup, Chile strengthens its growing reputation as a host for major international competitions. These events not only showcase the country’s commitment to sport, but also boost tourism, infrastructure, and global recognition.
