Nicanor Parra exhibit at Isla Negra:
It´s Parra´s turn

At the Isla Negra house of his friend Pablo Neruda, where Nicanor Parra wrote some of his poems, a new exhibit shows the life and work of the most famous of Chilean "antipoets". There are some never-before-seen pieces in this show, organized as part of the celebrations of Nicanor´s 90th birthday.

Nicanor Parra will turn 90 years of age next September the 4th, and will celebrate the important date, in part, with an exhibit that has been organized by the Pablo Neruda Foundation, with 90 pictures of never-before-seen photographs of his life and plastic work (his "artifacts"). These are unknown works and documents that will be shown along with rare first editions that are now almost impossible to find, such as "Manifiesto" and "Russian songs". On Parra´s birthday, Guillermo Cahn´s "Cachureos" will show a new and ludic filmic face of the poet.

"90 parras per year" is the name of the exhibit that was inaugurated with the songs of Lalo Parra (his brother). This is a kind of double birthday, since during 2004 we are also celebrating the 50 years of the publication of "Poems and antipoems", maybe his most famous book, and one that was read for the first time at the house of Pablo Neruda, in Santiago. There was a close friendship between the two poets. Some of Parra´s most important works, such as "Artifacts" and "Homilies of the Christ of Elqui", were written at the Neruda house, in Isla Negra.

The exhibit can also be seen at the Pablo Neruda Foundation´s website (www.fundacionneruda.org). On September 31st, it will move to the coastal town of Las Cruces, where Nicanor Parra now lives and where the Nicanor Parra Cultural Center has began its activities.
